Noteworthy: Renee Young is now on co-commentary on Superstars instead of Byron Saxton. Adam Rose was once again on this show rather than Raw, suggesting he’s doomed. Tyson Kidd was back on non-NXT WWE television again (well, it was taped in Canada). Chris Jericho is back in the opening credits.
Adam Rose pinned Titus O’Neil in 4:03
They replayed a segment on SmackDown from 3 weeks ago which
apparently played into this match. 3 weeks? That’s practically long-term
booking in WWE, right?
Titus O’Neil matches are really dull. His powerhouse beatdown
style really sucked the life out of the ‘party’ here. Rose taunts Titus with
his lolly pop, wiggles his ass at him, generally makes him look like a fool
until O’Neil grabs him and tries to sling him over his shoulder. Rose reverses
into sleeper and the crowd start up with Rose’s song. Reports in the building
said that Rose was using Canadian indie wrestlers as Rosebuds, as well as
Vanessa Kraven, a 6-foot woman indie wrestler from Montreal.
Rose is thrown off and O’Neil uses knees to beatdown Rose in the
corner. The match slows and loses heat. Renee is a pleasant change on commentary
at this point. Saxton and Philips sounded virtually identical in terms of tone
and cadence so the variety is welcomed. She’s quirky without being silly or
whimsical. I always liked her when she worked on The Score in Canada, as Renee
Paquette, with Arda Ocal.
O’Neil uses a torture rack-style spinebuster on his opponents
every week and here uses it twice on Rose. The second time, Rose fights out and
powers up with forearms and his patented south paw punches so that O’Neil is
left in the corner. Rose raises his arm, leads the crowd in a “choo, choo!”,
charges at O’Neil and hits him with a missile drop kick. He looks for the Party
Foul, Titus dodges but is pinned in bizarre fashion with a prawn hold.
Kevin Dunn in particular doesn’t like the Rose gimmick and,
actually, neither do I.
The Raw rebound had a video package of Roman
Reigns’ plight against Kane from Monday night and Orton v Ambrose.
Axel and
Ryback were backstage gearing up; Ryback said that Axel needed to watch out for
Kidd tonight who was a tough competitor. Axel laughed it off calling him a “wrestler
turned Total Diva” and then Ryback quipped, “you heard about my show, Total Big
Guys?” Now that would be a show. Axel said that he’d win the IC title at
Battleground. The bantered about who had achieved more (or less, in this case)
in the WWE. They agreed that they’d destroy the Dust Brothers next week and
left it there.
Curtis Axel (w/ Ryback) beat
Tyson Kidd (w/ Natalya) with Turning Heads in 8:06
Big reaction
for Natty and Tyson was great to see here. We get Goldberg chants again.
Seriously, still? They open up with
quick mat wrestling and pin attempts. Tyson with a cradle from wheelbarrow,
followed by a backslide and an inside cradle. Axel kicks out and catches his
breath, the crowd love this. Axel uses hammer
lock and Tyson creatively goes to the ropes and uses them to help him reverse
it.
Watching
Kidd is such a breath of fresh air, especially when you watch this match
straight after O’Neil and Rose’s dull affair.
Kidd hip
tosses Axel and puts on an arm bar as we’re given background from Renee about
Kidd and Natty, the dungeon and his first match at 15 years old. Irish whip
from Axel sees Kidd leap into a headscissors and use it to dump Axel over the
top rope to the outside. He then beautiful jumps over the top rope and catches
Axel with a punt to the head whilst still on the apron. We go to a break.
Kidd hits
the first of many drop kicks in this match on Axel who goes through ropes to
the outside. Kidd telegraphs a topé and gets caught with a punch which sends
him to the mat and allows Axel to take control with kicks and punches to the
corner. He uses clubs to back of the head, finally going for a cover and
getting a two count.
A desperate
drop toe hold from Tyson lets him come back into the match as Axel’s head
bounces off the turnbuckle. He powers up with kicks: a spinning kick, a drop
kick to side of the head and a final drop kick to head, while Axel is upside
down in the corner. Axel hits a side suplex to escape the onslaught and both go
down.
Kidd goes
for the Sharpshooter, but Axel gets to the ropes. Kidd leg drops Axel to the back
of the head and goes for a springboard elbow drop but it is blocked but Axel
who brings his knees up. This lets Axel take the bull by the horns and pins
Tyson with a one armed swinging neckbreaker which I think he calls Turning
Heads.
A great
match by Superstars standards. It really is sad how wasted Tyson Kidd is by
this company.
The Raw Rebound recapped Cena v Rollins in their
non-title match.
